Key Points

  • Kid space fostering direct interactions with nature

  • Bringing the community together through gardening

  • Food/vegetable education

  • Gardening education

  • Supporting and enhancing the Grange

  • Easily accessible demonstration garden

Kale Forest Farm Camp hopes to support youth in building direct connections within the natural world. Through active play, observation, personal experiences, story, harvesting, and gardening we are fostering a healthy present and future in children’s lives. As director, my intention is to hold the space to build these relationships and support farm/garden interactions. By exposing young children to agriculture, animals, farmers, and the insect domain early, we are creating experiences that will give positive previews of agriculture. To grow future farmers, gardeners, plant lovers, and happy adults we must focus on integrating the outside world and the internal spirit.

In order to make this camp possible, I sought out a space that would be open to a garden centered around a child’s need to play in the beds and not just within walking paths. The Quimper Grange Community Garden, in Port Townsend, was the perfect space for this. Here I hope to establish garden play equipment, such as a Sunflower House, a Bean and Pea Tipi Village, and other themed beds. This way there is opportunity for comfort through nature, as well as observation. I hope to build support for the Grange itself as a vital part of the community by gardening and adding to what has already been started. Therefore, I am taking on the labor and organizing needs of the Grange Community Garden.

Please take a little time to look at the needs list for this amazing project. It takes the community’s support to really build a ‘community garden.’ Please contact Natalie Robinson at 360-643-1926 or nmrobinson84@hotmail.com for any more questions. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
